ASSEMBLY BILL 2355

California enacted on September 23, 2022, Assembly Bill 2355, School Cybersecurity, into law by adding Article 8.5 to Section 35265 of the Education Code in California.

The new law mandates reporting of a cyberattack impacting more than 500 pupils or personnel to the California Cybersecurity Integration Center

The Los Angeles Unified School District (LAUSD) cyberattack is the tip of the iceberg. Threat actors broke into the network, stole 500 gigabytes of confidential and personal information of students and installed ransomware, demanded a ransom payment and disrupted school operations.
